Useless Web Challenge
Exploring creativity through creating intentionally pointless websites.
Overview
The Useless Web Challenge was a fun, creative group project where the main goal was to
**design websites that had no practical use** just pure entertainment, humor, and experimentation.
By removing the pressure of functionality and user needs, we were free to push creative boundaries
and explore what is possible with simple HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
The challenge encouraged us to think outside the box and use web development as a playground for crazy, unexpected ideas.
Process
1. Ideation
We started by brainstorming the most random, funny, or absurd ideas we could come up with.
Some concepts we developed:
- A candle that never goes out
- A website that finally finds the awnser: chicken or egg
- A toiletroll that never gives the paper
- A Valentine request
2. Prototyping & Coding
We split into small groups, and each group took ownership of one "useless" idea.
Using basic HTML, CSS animations, and a bit of JavaScript, we quickly built small, interactive websites.
Focus was not on polish, but on creativity and surprising interactions.
3. Testing & Refining
Even though the sites were "useless," we still wanted them to feel playful and responsive.
We tested interactions to make sure they worked as intended and sometimes added small extra features for extra fun.
Like random sound effects or surprise visuals.
4. Final Showcase
We bundled all our mini-sites into a single "Useless Web Collection" and presented them to the class.
It was a celebration of weirdness, creativity, and the pure joy of making things for no reason other than to make people laugh.
