Little Sun
Building a digital workspace to support Little Sun's mission of sustainable agriculture through solar innovation.
Overview
Little Sun has been a pioneer in using solar energy to empower smallholder farmers around the world.
In 2025, they focused exclusively on solar-powered agricultural productivity — combining technology and sustainability.
Our task was to design and develop an internal **Work Hub** — a platform where managers, employees, and owners could manage schedules, track work hours, view tasks, and improve overall workplace communication.
This was a group project, where collaboration, communication, and clear task division were crucial.
Process
1. Defining Requirements
We began by gathering the needs of different user groups (managers, employees, and the owner).
Key features that had to be included:
- Personal dashboard for each user
- Overview of work schedules and assigned tasks
- Timesheet management (view and log work hours)
- Internal notifications for task updates or schedule changes
2. System Architecture & Wireframes
We mapped out the database structure, user permissions, and page flows.
Technologies we used:
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, and a touch of JavaScript for interactivity
- Backend: PHP (object-oriented)
- Database: MySQL
Wireframes helped us plan the layout of the dashboards and user journeys, making sure everything was easy to navigate.
3. Development & Collaboration
We divided tasks among the team:
- One part focused on setting up the database and user authentication
- Another part worked on the dashboard UI/UX
- And a third group managed dynamic functionalities like schedules and timesheets
Regular group standups helped keep everyone aligned and ensured we could solve problems quickly.
4. Final Result
The final platform allowed all users to log in securely, view customized dashboards, and interact with their schedules and tasks.
Managers had the ability to assign and edit tasks, while employees could track their hours and stay updated via notifications.
It was a fully functional internal tool, built from scratch, that could scale with the growing needs of Little Sun.
